The three-legged Jin Chan occupies a curious place in Chinese folklore. Closely associated with wealth and prosperity, one legend tells of a golden toad capable of spitting out gold, using its extraordinary gift to aid the poor.
This legendary creature is brought to life in pewter as interpreted by sculptor Xu Xiao Yong, giving its unusual form a richly sculptural presence. Beneath it, auspicious Chinese coins reinforce the Jin Chan's longstanding association with wealth and abundance.
The figurine rests on a composite resin base finished in Metalesce, while the coins are picked out in radiant 24K gilt, creating a striking contrast against the pewter.
